I’m a big fan of branching story structures. Every options brings user to a totally different story or stage. Sometimes two different options may leads to the same story and sometimes they lead to two totally different stories. Through different choices at different stages, users are attracted to discover different storys. It’s encouraging the users to think critically, I always think about how my choices will affect the plot and the ending. I personly like to go over the story over and over again until i find out every single combinations. Many video games use branching story structures, espisially the interactive video games. Detroit: Become Human is a highly branched interactive story. It;s developed by Quantic Dream, it’s a narrative-driven game with extensive player choices that significantly impact the plot, characters, and endings. The story follows three main characters Connor, Kara, and Markus, as they navigate a futuristic Detroit where androids and humans struggle for coexistence.

The experience of capturing video away from a screencast is somehow challenging. One of the challenges is keeping the camera steady without proper equipment (like tripods). It takes me a while until I find a proper angle. Standing in front of the camera involves nerves or mistakes, leading to multiple takes. I’m not totally comfortable standing in front of the camera, so I tried several angle that only my arm is showing in the camera but not my face, but I gave up eventually. Next time I probably will use an external microphone other than my iPhone for providing better sound quality. And I will use tripods to keep the camera steady.

Overall I feel Module 5 is interesting, I learned how to use a new tool — Twine. I also learned storyboarding and scriptwriting for creating a video. My favorite part is using Twine to create an interactive, non-linear storie. I think the branched interactive stories can better grab the user’s attention and trigger critical thinking.
